The type of work i do is commonly referred to as "etching" altho some might call it "engraving" - but either way it is created by using a tool to "scratch" the surface of the item I am working on.
I have 'etched' car windows, mirrors, computer case windows, glassware of all sorts and most recently motorcycle fuel tanks. (more pics to be added...)
The tanks are quickly becoming my favorite item to play with.
I start with a tank stripped down to bare metal - give it a couple of light coats of black paint - 'etch' the design of choice thru the paint & into the metal - highlight the etched area with what are called "Kandy" paints (very transparent paints in an array of bright colors) occasionally do a little more etching to highlight certain areas of the design, then everything gets several coats of clear to seal, protect and finish the project.
The only bad thing with photos of these tanks is that you just can NOT see the way the light plays off of the etched metal - it is almost halographic in nature - it "moves" with the angle of the light bouncing off of it - it really needs to be seen in person to really appreciate the truly unique qualities of this kind of art.
Hope you enjoy!
